The Cell 2000
This is Silence of the lambs meets the Matrix,The race to Find a killer inside a forth dimension of as yet unexplored science that danger to destroy
Psychotherapist Dr. Catherine Deane (Jennifer Lopez )who is part of a revolutionary new treatment which allows her mind to literally enter the mind of her patients. Her experience in this method takes an unexpected turn after their current treatment program seems to be stalling when an FBI agent comes to ask for a desperate favor. asSpecial Agent Peter Novak (Vince Vaughn, when he used to do Serious Films)
has just tracked down a notorious serial killer, Carl Stargher (Vincent D'Onofrio), whose pattern is to abduct women one at a time and place them in a secret area where they are kept for several hours in an elaborate machine until they are slowly drowned.after which he 'makes them over' in a very macabre fashion into his sexual play toys This is of course quite Unfortunate as the killer has fallen into an irreversible coma due to a rare illness which means he cannot confess where he has taken his latest victim, who is trapped in the Machine which shall eventually slowly take her life Now, Catherine must race against time to explore the twisted mind of the killer with an as yet fairly unsuccessful treatment with uncertain side affects to get the information the FBI requires,
What she finds is though the looking glass and beyond the seventh circle of hell
The films of Director Tarsem Singh have a particular visual quality that could almost be a product of the short lived french film Movement Cinema Du Look, which some have said prefers style over substance this can been seen in subsequent films such as 'the Fall' and 'Immortals' all of which are visually stunning , this is also due to the work of legendary costumer designer Eiko Isioka, who has been a presence with Singh from the beginning as well as for her stunning work on 1992's Dracula , Visual references can also be strongly made between this and such music videos as Madonnas Bedtime Story and Nine Inch Nails Closer to the keen eye.
